What’s new this month – Cheddar Edition

Some weeks are just very cheesy and this last one was definitely one of those…

We have not one but three fabulous events for you this month.

Children’s cheese tasting event

A fun, informal family event aimed at cheese tasting for 4-11 year-olds. Join us in the Boston Room of The George IV 10.30- 11.30am and taste five different cheeses with some accompaniments guaranteed to give young tastebuds a buzz.

This event is done in your own time so you can go at your own family’s pace, but members of the Academy of Cheese and Market Team will be on hand to guide you through the tasting boxes. Only £12 per family ticket. Book ahead or buy a ticket at Market HQ on the day.

Cheeseboard Masterclass with Ned Palmer and Chiswick Cheese Market.

For those of you who have not been lucky enough to read Ned’s books (@cheesetastingco) I can thoroughly recommend them to any cheese lover. He’s written a new book, and he will be telling us about that while presenting his perfect selection for a Christmas Cheese Board.

The Cheese Market Team will be show off some ideas of presentation and as a group of chefs and cookery writers will be giving up some of their favourite recipes and tips for some unusual and fabulous accompaniments. What could be better on an autumn Sunday afternoon than eating cheese, listening to Ned, pairing some interesting flavours and enjoying a glass of wine? See you there!

There are a few tickets left so book to be assured of your place.

Meet the maker event on HQ

We are so lucky to have the Trethowan Brothers on HQ this month showing off their cheeses. We know their cheeses well at Cheesewick – Pitchfork Cheddar and Gorwydd Caerphilly as Roi has been bringing them to us from day one.

This is a free cheese tasting and the opportunity to meet some of the best of the best – these guys are real, live, hands -on, cheese makers. I’m thinking a photo op with them and Buttercup is not to be missed. They will be with us all day so come along to HQ and say hello.

Autumn is a great ‘cheese’ time of year. Not only are we hunkering down with warm soups topped with melting cheese or coming inside from the wet to a wonderful cheese toastie, it is also actually a good time for many cheeses coming into their best after being made with summer milk.

Enjoy the maturing Vacherin Mont d’Or from @thefrenchcomte. A wooden box of joy made from the end of summer Alpine milk just waiting to be baked. Early summer Stilton is maturing beautifully and is just starting to be at its best so pair it with nuts or dried fruit or simply add a little chunk to a lovely soup on an autumn day.

Harder cheeses are coming into their own after being made with the summer milk try Wyfe of Bath – just starting to be delicious after 4 months this Gouda style British cheese is definitely on my list this month. There are so many cheeses just waiting for you at Cheesewick this Sunday.

I feel exhausted by all of this wonderful cheesiness and can’t wait for Sunday.

Join one of our fantastic events or for a selfie with The Trethowan Brothers and Buttercup or just come along and buy cheese – see you there!
