Fine Cheesemakers of Scotland shine at the September market

The Chiswick Cheese Market is the monthly home to over 250 different artisan cheeses from around the world and while many are from within the UK, we do not feature as many Scottish cheeses as we would like. In September we enlisted the help of Morgane Lambert and Emma Johnson from Fine Cheese Makers of Scotland to reel in some Scottish artisan cheesemakers and showcase the Flower of Scotland’s cheeses as it were.

HQ – the monthly market headquarters of all things cheesy – was host to two Scottish producers.

Rory Stone of Highland Fine Cheeses, a man self-professed to be obsessed with ‘smelly little things’ brought his award-winning and fragrant Minger, Morangie Brie and Blue Murder all made at their farm in Tain from milk from The Black Isle.

The Stewart family have farmed in Falside in Fife since the 1930’s. Jane Stewart brought the farm’s St. Andrews Cheese raw milk Anster as well as their Whiskey Barrel Smoked St. Andrew cheddar.

Faye, of Big Wheel cheese who specialise in cheeses from all over the British Isles, was delighted to add an extra stall bedecked with Saltires and laden with Scottish cheeses. By midday all the Minger was gone.

Augmenting the Scottish flare was the extraordinary bagpiping talent, Duncan Grant a master of Great Highland Bagpipe. He serenaded a tartaned Buttercup and marched the length and breadth of the market, certainly a man at the height of his ‘skirl’ power.

Kilts a kimbo, tam o’shanters a plenty, a slew of Saltires, scads of bagpipe skirls – it was a REELY good time!
