What’s new this Month – Punch Drunk Love!

February is the month of love and my other half is getting a card from me with a handmade gift token in it – ‘A day out at Chiswick Cheese Market and he can choose all the cheese we buy!’ – Well, if that in itself is not a gift worth giving to any cheese lover then can we tempt you further as we have something very special lined up for this ‘Valentine’ Market. Max from Drunk cheese will be hosting a free tasting session on HQ.

When I first met Max, I thought that ‘drunk cheese’ sounded gimmicky but I discovered that was far from the truth. Its history goes back to the 1st World War when the farmers in Northern Italy hid their cheese in empty wine barrels from the looting Austro-Hungarian troops. The pomace (grape skins) left in the barrels macerated the ageing cheese and ‘Ubriaco’ or drunk cheese was born.

These days it is an art in itself, and is much broader than using just wine residue – a Super-Gold was won at this year’s World Cheese Awards for their ‘Blugins’ cheese which is coated in juniper berries and steeped in gin (and if you are both a blue cheese and gin lover I do encourage you to try this one!).So, both those already converted and those new to ‘drunk cheese’ join us on HQ for a fascinating tasting starting at 9.30am.
